Hi’s Eye has chosen to highlight who were named to nj.com’s first and second all-county teams following the winter season.
Junior Lillian Scott was voted first team all-county and Junior Jackie Knapp was voted second team all-county.
Said Knapp, “It is a great accomplishment and shows hard work pays off.”
Both the boys and girls swim teams were named Union County Team of the Year.
Luke McGrory, Aeden Collins, John Lindros, Tyler Lessner and Stephen Husch were all named first team all-county. Aram Barmakian and David Lindros were named second-team.
Said John Lindros “It is an honor to be chosen for first team all-county especially because of our counties’ history of fast swimmers.”
“It felt good to finally be first team. I had been third and second teams in all three previous years in high school, but to receive that honor in my senior year was very special,” according to McGrory.
Senior Caroline Baldwin won her second consecutive NJ Swimmer of the Year award and was named first-team all state. Senior Sarah Cronin made all-county first team.
Senior Matt Luppino made all-county for winter track.
Junior Natalie Marcotullio and senior Gabby Stravach were named to the winter track first team all-county.
According to Marcotullio, “It means a lot… because our entire team has worked hard this year and has made great improvements so it is nice to see that our hard work has paid off.”
Senior Wrestlers Matt Barber and Nick Velez were named first team all-county for their respective weight classes. Junior John Fuller and Brian Lapham were named second team. Additionally, Wrestling Coach Glen Kurz named Union County Coach of the Year.
Kurz said, “We all take pride in this program put a lot into it, but the credit belongs to our kids who buy into what we’re teaching them and act like champions every day.”
