Said Lankler, “Everyone was ready to put [the previous day’s loss] aside in order to concentrate on our next match which we knew was going to be close.”

Lankler added, “We were playing a course that we knew was tricky and that we had to stay focused the entire round in order to come out on top.”

According to senior Tri-Captain Mark Hartzell: “Brad played well, but other than that the team wasn’t really clicking. We haven’t played on the course for a while, and we knew it wouldn’t be an easy win.”

Lankler had 35 strokes, Hartzell had 44 strokes, senior Tri-Captain Brett Ripperger had 42 strokes and sophomore Jared Geoghan had 44 strokes.
 
Said Coach Ryan Daly: “We’re having a good season, but we had a few tough losses. We lost a match by one stroke to Governor Livingston, [which] is one of our big rivals in the conference.”

“We’re hoping these experiences along with our hard work will help us hit our stride going into the end of season tournaments,” he added.

The team is looking forward to the Union County Tournament at Echo Lake on May 9, where they will be defending its championship title as a team and Brad Lankler will also be defending his individual title, according to Daly.

Said Daly: “We are also looking forward to the State Sectional tournament at Alpine Country Club which is a tough golf course.  That will be our chance to qualify for the Tournament of Champions and go up against the best teams and players in the state.”  

According to Lankler: “We knew that we couldn’t let this match affect us for the conference tournament on Tuesday in which we knew we could redeem ourselves and defend our title.”

The team won first place in the Watchung Division at the Union County Conference Tournament on Tuesday.
