Carlo’s Bakery, owned by Buddy Valastro of Cake Boss, is joining Westfield’s downtown later this year.
According to tlc.com, the TLC show Cake Boss documents Buddy’s desire to fulfill his father’s dream of opening a bakery. Since Valastro’s bakery was first featured on TV, he has expanded his company in many ways. Valastro now offers his cakes at Costco, as well as cake and cupcake decorating class.
After opening a bakery in Ridgewood, Carlo’s Bakery is branching out to Westfield. The bakery will be located on East Broad Street next to Five Guys. Banners were posted at its location to announce its arrival.
The new bakery will include the cupcakes, cakes and pastries that are offered in the original Hoboken bakery, as well as a new custom cake bar. According to mycentraljersey.com, the cake bar will allow customers to enjoy a more personal experience.
However, many Westfield residents have strong opinions about the arrival of Carlo’s.
Said senior Rachel Hertzberg, “Now people are going to come to our town more; it’s going to get crowded and there will be more traffic.”
Said Westfield resident Ms. Kristine Riley, “I am concerned about the small businesses like Bovella’s, but I think [Westfield] should be able to hold [its] own.”
She added: “I’m also concerned about the traffic. I know there’s a police officer in Hoboken that is normally there to help control the lines…. On the flip side, I guess it can be good to bring business to Westfield.”
According to nj.com, Westfield is an ideal location for the company because it is a homey town with a great community. The bakery is hiring, according to thealternativepress.com. Applications are being accepted at bakeshop.carlosbakery.com/contact-us.
