Dance for Charity

by Carley Davis
The Student Government will host the third annual Dance-A-Thon tonight in Cafeterias A and B, from 6 p.m. to midnight.
According to Student Government Adviser Ms. Liz Schultz: “We’ve all been working overtime to make this the best Dance-A-Thon yet. We definitely have the best prizes ever.”
At the event, Athletic Trainer Mr. Chris Flores will teach a salsa class, Schultz will instruct a yoga class and students will participate in games on the dance floor. DJ Mikey Puerari will provide music.
Each team, which consists of five to eight members, is required to donate a minimum of $50. All of the funds will be donated to the school charity, Good Grief, and will go toward adding more computers to the WHS library. Pledges are also accepted in order to raise more money.
According to sophomore Alexis Kardias: “Members of the dance team are going around asking family and friends to sponsor their team. All contributions are accepted and are put forth toward the team’s overall money raised. This is a good way for more people to get involved.”
The team that raises the most money will win prizes. According to sophomore Recording Secretary Lizzie Ponce, prizes include an iPad, Solo Beats Headphones, a Michael Kors watch, an acoustic guitar, an iTouch, Devils tickets, a teacher’s parking spot, gift cards and Ralph Lauren Cologne. Food, drinks and prizes were donated by various merchants in the community.
Said senior Treasurer Ella D’Amico, “We hope that the school is as excited as we are for the Dance-A-Thon and [students] come to show their support.”
Senior Ellie Callinan added: “I’m excited for all of the changes from last year. I think I am going to try the salsa class because I’ve never had the opportunity to try it before. Since it is my last year, my team is going to do its best to go all out and make this [Dance-A-Thon] memorable.”
