Eggnog or Egg Rolls?

By Caroline O’Connor

There comes a point during everyone’s holiday celebrations when it is impossible to endure another latke or bite of fruitcake. With almost every store and restaurant closed on Christmas day, it might seem as if there’s nowhere to turn for a quick hunger fix. But have no fear—Chinese food restaurants are open on even the whitest of Christmases. There are plenty of Chinese eateries in town that can halt your holiday hunger.

Hunan Wok III
4 out of 4 Stars
Located at 25 East Broad St., Hunan Wok III has all your Chinese food classics. The food is prepared fast, which makes pick up easy, and comes in large portions. Parking for the restaurant isn’t challenging, with plenty of spots in the front and around the corner. Some dishes that stand out are the chicken and broccoli and delicious homemade wontons.
The servers are pleasant and aren’t stingy when it comes to throwing in some extra soy sauce. Also, there is a small dining area that sits around 8-15 people for those who are looking to enjoy their meal at the restaurant.Peking Garden
3 out of 4 Stars
This very small Chinese Restaurant can be found at 522 Central Ave. and offers some basic Chinese take-out. The dishes are not very greasy and the portions are of average size. The sesame chicken is very good; the sauce is delicious and the chicken is tenderly cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the dining area is a little dingy, and the restaurant’s location is less than ideal.
Because parking can be a struggle, delivery or take-out is the best option. Since the service is very fast and the pricing is average, Peking Garden is a decent place for your holiday Chinese meal.
Jade Garden
2 out of 4 Stars
Known for the best General Tso’s chicken in town, Jade Garden, located at 229 North Ave., gives you a lot for your money. The lo mein is by far the best here, and the egg rolls are also worth raving about. They are crisp and jam-packed with delicious ingredients.
The fried rice is tempting, the chicken is juicy and the food is extremely flavorful all around. Everything is nicely cooked and seasoned well. While the servers can be a little rude, they get the food made quickly for pick up or delivery. However, the dine-in area isn’t ideal because of its limited seating.
