Lighter side: Staffer reflects on effects of Sandy on WHS prom season

by Matt Gates

Due to the damage to the Jersey Shore by Superstorm Sandy, instead of spending Prom Weekend down the shore, WHS students will be attending post-prom events in Westfield hosted by the BOE.

Lighter Side

Remaining in Westfield will give students a variety of fun things to do. Prom Weekend could include froyo outings at no fewer than four different places. Games include trying not to get into accidents with speeding SUV’s and trying to get past mobs of middle schoolers in downtown Westfield.

The school will also be hosting a “Middle School Throwback Dance” on Sunday night.

According to the student body president: “We are going to have a continuation of prom the next day—middle school dance style. Boys and girls will be in separate rooms. And by separate rooms, I mean boys will be in the gym playing basketball or by the food. Also, ‘Soulja Boy’ will play every three songs.”

Said an anonymous WHS student: “I am most excited about the punch. And the pretzels but mostly the punch.”

Required attire for boys will be a polo shirt and preferably not jeans or dirty sneakers. Expected attire for girls will include dresses that cost over $500.

“Missing an entire day of school for an hour-long hair appointment and having your parents lie about being sick counts for extra points,” added the student body president.

There will be parent chaperones with yard sticks to verify that no one gets too close. If anyone happens to break this rule the lights will be turned on.

The parent pick-up area will be the back lot. A mob of students is expected to form around the back door at 10:30 p.m. and quickly disperse at 10:35 p.m.

Alternatively, Middle Skool Limo Servicez would like to add that limos can be rented for the event.
