New courses offered

The 2015-016 school year is bringing new courses to WHS. Here’s a look into the classes being introduced next year
IDEA-Honors:

  • Class Description: Integration of Design, Engineering & Architecture – Honors gives students a chance to utilize the science and math skills that they learned in previous years. Additionally, they are given the chance to apply their skills to design, engineering, and architecture. This course focuses on STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
  • Teacher who designed the course: Mr. Mark Harper
  • Mr. Harper: “I hope students…come to appreciate the engineered world all around them; learn to think critically about societal issues that often co-arise with technology; and consider careers in design, engineering and architecture.”

Mock Trial:

  • Class Description: This course places a particular emphasis on law and history. Overall, it provides students with an in-depth overview of the civil court system by following a mock trial problem used by the New Jersey State Bar Association. At the end of the semester, students will present a mock trial in its entirety. Afterwards, at the end of the semester, all of the students in the class will present a mock trial in is entirety
  • Teacher who designed the class: Ms. Kimberly Leegan
  • Ms. Leegan: “ I love this course because it will help students develop skills that will serve them well in any field they will enter— skills like public speaking, problem solving, teamwork, persuasion, analytical reasoning, [and other skills].”

Blog Writing:

  • Class Description: This course offers a unique way for students to further develop their writing, reading and standardized test-taking approaches. In this course students will develop writing skills through creating their own blogs, as well as develop speaking and listening skills through in-class readings.
  • Teacher who designed this course: Mr. Warren Hynes
  • Mr. Hynes: “This course is a chance for students to develop writing skills in a way that is dynamic and fun.
