A renovation to the roof of the school began last summer after a bond was passed by the BOE in 2012, providing funding to redo the roofs of all public schools in the Westfield district.
Said Renwick: “Our goal was to have the roof done before school started. However, due to a hot and rainy July, that was not possible.”
Added BOE President Mr. Richard Mattessich: “The remaining ‘punch list’ of items will be completed by Nov. 30. This assumes the weather cooperates, but we have a high confidence in the remaining timeline.”
According to Mattessich, the renovation was overdue. Said Mattessich: “The old roof was very old and consisted of several layers. Leaks…were not uncommon and a significant amount of money and time was spent chasing [them] and making patchwork repairs.”
Mattessich added, “We look forward to a properly functioning roof, free of leaks and issues, for many years to come.”
