Senior athlete profiles

by Jesse Finver, Meghan Reilly

Although they are leaving an impressive athletic legacy behind, WHS Seniors will carry their athletic talents with them as they create new identities as college athletes.

Name: Meghan Meyers
Sport: Swimming
School: Le Moyne College, NY
Quote: “[I’m excited] to swim at a higher level with new people and with a new coach. Every coach has a different style of coaching, and I’m excited to see how he can help me improve.”

Name: Rob Ciardullo
Sport: Track & Field
School: Fordham, NY
Quote: “[I’m looking forward to] competing at extremely competitive meets and getting to run at track facilities around the country. We are also allowed to use starting blocks indoors, which I’ve never been able to do.”

Name: Kevin Ingram
Sport: Cross Country
School: The College of New Jersey
Quote: “[The most difficult adjustment] will be getting used to the new coach, new team members and mixing practice with school work.”

Name: Loren Ball
Sport: Swimming
School: Boston College
Quote: “My favorite [WHS athletic] memory was when we defeated Immaculate Heart Academy (IHA) this January. It was the first time our team had ever beaten them in history and they hadn’t lost a meet in five years! The meet also named us the Star Ledger #1 team in NJ which is a really big deal. I still get the chills when I think about that day. We were so nervous to swim them and we won 87-83 in the last relay! I don’t think I had ever seen my coach cry until that day.”

Name: Sophia Devita
Sport: Soccer
School: Fairfield University
Quote: “I think the most difficult adjustment will be playing at a whole new level, and working that much harder on the team to prove I’m meant to be there.”

Name: Danielle Grimes
Sport: Cross Country/Winter and Spring Track & Field
School: Ursinus College
Quote: “I am excited to be continuing with the sport I love at a more competitive level. I’m also looking forward to meeting new people, staying in shape and hopefully running some new personal records!”

Name: Jack Leahy
Sport: Cross Country
School: The College of New Jersey
Quote: “The most exciting part about running in college is a fresh start, almost a new slate, although we don’t need one. But a new team to adjust to and the life style will be very exciting. It will be just new opportunity to pursue what I started and found to love in high school, I am most excited that at TCNJ they are a competitive DIII school. DI would be too much for me.”
