Suiting up: A prom-wear guide for guys

by Izzy Smelkinson

For the past few months, girls have been stressing out about finding the perfect dress for their perfect prom night. With so many different cuts, colors and accessories, female prom-goers are bombarded with options. However, what many people don’t know is that male prom-goers have just as much to worry about. Here’s a quick guide into the different tuxedo fashions from which one can choose.

Tuxedos
White: A relatively new addition to tuxedo fashion, the white tux is sure to make you a stand-out at prom. When paired with a black shirt and tie, the inside-out look is both sophisticated and fun. However, be wary of your date’s opinion of the white tux: if she isn’t a fan, you may want to stick to the basics.

Classic Black: You can’t go wrong with a classic. The black tuxedo gives you polish without needing to try too hard. Wearing a black tux provides a clean look with minimal effort. (Just make sure to button all the correct buttons!)

Accessories
Bow ties: Though seemingly impossible to tie, the bow tie adds an extra James Bond factor to your look. It may be very small, but the bow tie is known for its ability to make almost anything classy. No matter the color or fabric, if you sport a bow tie at prom, you are sure to look cool.

Vests: Matching your prom date is not always fun when you have a style of your own. However, sporting a vest under your jacket adds personal flair and helps to match your date. Also, no matter the color, vests give you a slim figure without needing to go to the gym. Added bonus: the color of your vest will really bring out the color of your eyes.

Now that you know the basics, mix and match what you want to create your own stylish look. Just remember: it doesn’t matter what you wear, as long as you wear it with confidence.
