Teachers remember prom

by Lauren Koenigsberg

Prom has been a tradition for many years and always supplies many stories and memories to be shared. Here are a few pictures and funny prom moments from teachers at WHS.

Ms. Rose Calimano: “As much as I hate to admit it now, I was a smoker in high school. At that time, you could smoke anywhere and everywhere. I lit a cigarette at the table, and one of my long fake nails caught on fire! With everyone at my table watching, I extinguished the flame quickly by sticking my finger in my cup of punch.”

Ms. Jill Mezzacappa: “I never went to a prom! I went to an all-girls boarding school where there was no prom. My hometown high school had one, but I was not around for prom because I was at school. But even if someone from my hometown had asked, it would’ve been depressing because there was no way my parents would’ve let me go to the shore after.”

Ms. Jill Veltri: “I threw up in my limo on my way to prom. I get really carsick, but I sat sideways in the limo because my friends told me it would be a short ride. I knew it was going to be a bad idea. I felt very sick, and I was wearing a white dress. I tried throwing up out the window, [but] it splattered on me. My makeup and dress were ruined when I got to prom!”

Ms. Liz Schultz: “My husband and I went to prom together twice—his senior year, then my junior year. After one of them we went to Dunkin Donuts, then came back to his house and he had surprised me by having his parents go pick up crepes from my favorite place, Ravenous, so we had a midnight snack. The following year, the [morning after prom] there was snow covering the ground.”
