Union County lends a hand

by Maddie Katz
Independent Study, a mentoring program involving WHS students and eighth graders at RIS, will hold its presentation on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. and on June 7 during RIS periods 6–9
The directors are juniors Kaitlin Abrams, Rebecca Plotkin, Sarah Davidson and RIS Science Teacher Mr. Jeffrey Robbins. According to Abrams, they carefully handpick mentors whom they feel will best fit with the students in the program each year.

“My favorite aspect of the program is that there are no guidelines,” added Abrams.

Said Robbins,“Far too often in education, the various curriculums dictate that the classes go at such a fast pace that students are unable to go into depth on the topics they are interested in.”

According to Davidson, the program’s values are reflected on how imaginative and creative the students in the program are.

Some of the unique projects include rock climbing, the study of space and creating new iPhone models.
