Bogin is ‘Strictly Business’

by Jessica Ciampa

Hi’s Eye met with senior Andrew Bogin to discuss his upcoming TV show pilot, Strictly Business, scheduled to be completed by early 2013.

Hi’s Eye: What is the storyline of Strictly Business?
Andrew Bogin: Strictly Business is about the protagonist Billy Murphy, who is on top of the world in the sports management game…. He ends up going to jail…and he has to [work] himself back to the top with his two other friends whom he met in the business management game.
HE: Is Strictly Business planned to be a TV series or just a pilot?
AB: Right now, [Strictly Business] is going to be a one-time pilot. You never know—if the pilot turns out…there could always be a sequel.
HE: Why did you first decide to create Strictly Business?
AB: I wrote this pilot originally to pitch to HBO, and I’ve always wanted to go into film, so I thought that I might as well shoot this myself because I need some experience…. I am trying to set up meetings with agents and trying to get this pilot picked up. For right now we are just trying to film it. My friends all wanted to be a part of it so we have a 32-person cast now…. It’s turned out flawless so far. HE: How did you cast the roles for the characters in your show?
HE: How did you cast the roles for the characters in your show?
AB: First, I knew I would play the lead role because I would probably have to, due to scheduling conflicts…. I didn’t write the role for myself, I just knew I could do it. There are also two other leads, Jason [Colasanti] and Brett [Ripperger], who were tough to cast.
HE: How are you planning on creating publicity for your pilot and getting out the word?
AB: I created a Strictly Business page [on Facebook] which has about 139 likes…. We are going to start a Twitter account, which should be great. I’m going to try to get my name out as much as possible,… so people from other towns notices [as well].
HE: Once the pilot is complete, how do you plan on broadcasting it to viewers?
AB: We are going to try to call up a few places, (possibly the Rialto) and get a screening for everyone to come…. We want to get an actual screening, almost like a movie premiere.
HE: Are you planning on making any sort of profit off of your show? If so, how?
AB: If we do a screening, I could charge a few dollars a ticket; since we have all those “likes” there’s a bunch of people who would probably be going. We would make a pretty decent profit, but I would put all the money made back into…another movie.
HE: What made you first interested in creating Strictly Business?
AB: I love Family Guy so much that I wanted to make it a Family Guy type of show with an Entourage feel; both of them put together makes an amazing show and complements each other so well.
HE: What are your favorite aspects about creating this pilot?
AB: I have always loved the main character, Billy Murphy…. He is absolutely crazy and outward and totally suits my personality, even though I’m not that kind of guy; it’s just that I could imagine me as him.
HE: Where do you hope for Strictly Business to be in the future, maybe in a year from now?
AB: In a year from now, I hope to have it on HBO. I hope for it to be on its first season and maybe everyone will see Jason, Brett and me on there as well. You never know. Anything is possible.
