Seniors design magazine

by Laura Streaman

Many students know seniors Jack Campbell and Connor Swingle, but now with their new publication, The Exposure Magazine, WHS is viewing them through a new lens. The Exposure Magazine is an online photography magazine founded in the fall of 2012 in order to “pass on the knowledge [they] have acquired over the years, give students a way to regularly publish their work and inspire future photographers,” according to theexposuremagazine.com.

“Jack and I have been involved in the WHS photography community since freshman year. Our senior year we decided to give back to this community by creating The Exposure Magazine,” said Swingle. Campbell and Swingle began the idea in the spring of 2012 in hopes of expanding the photography community at WHS, according to Swingle.

The magazine appeals to those who are beginners as well as those who are advanced photographers. “Each issue of The Exposure Magazine includes readers’ submissions, articles on photographic technique, DIY projects, interviews with WHS photographers, and additional features specific to the issue,” said Campbell. Whether you’re an expert or just learning the basics, the magazine gives readers the opportunity to learn something new about photography.

Said junior Mary-Walker Rippe, “I hope that readers learn something about photography and even test some new techniques out.” There are no current photography courses offered at WHS, so The Exposure Magazine allows students to learn, publish and become involved in the photography community, according to Campbell.
“I love photography because it’s very interpretive and susceptible to growth and change. What one person may see in a photograph might be completely different from what another person sees,” said Rippe.

The Exposure Magazine comes out quarterly, and the winter issue is predicted to be released in early March. Students can submit their photographs by emailing [email protected] or by visiting theexposuremagazine.com.
