WHS musicians self-produce

Whether it be from iTunes or YouTube, Spotify or SoundCloud, music has become much more accessible. With this accessibility comes the ability to self-produce. Several WHS students have started music careers through the simple click of a button.

Senior Justin Dudzinski is a member of the band Hurricane Nobody. The band has been together for a little bit over a year, but just added two new members, Tony Peer and Frank Guerriero, along with returning members Chris Swingle and Teddy Mebane. “We are pretty much starting fresh,” Dudzinski said.

While the band mostly plays at small venues and basement shows, Dudzinski said that “social media is key” to getting listeners. “It allows you to reach out around the world. Junior year, a podcaster from Britain interviewed the band after finding us on Twitter.” Their song “Comatose” can be found at hurricanenobody.bandcamp.com.

The band Jewhawk Priestess and Brumpo Beatman uses Bandcamp as well. Sophomores Noah Plotkin and Skylar Graham released their EP Seafoam in early July. Since then, the band has been putting out short EPs every month. Said Plotkin, “The people who listen know that they can check back every month for a new EP, and they do.” Jewhawk Priestess and Brump Beatman music can be found at jewhawkpriestessandbrumpobeatman.bandcamp.com.

Sophomore Z Klofta posts music on SoundCloud and connects with other musicians on Twitter. “I’ve made friends with people who produce songs with a million listens,” said Klofta. “They repost most of my things on SoundCloud every once in awhile.” Klofta began posting music under the name Closed Doors last year.

Students have also worked on self-producing their own music at local studios. RMC Studios is a music instruction company in Garwood serving students of all ages. Senior Jack Manning has started recording and producing songs for both himself and other students throughout the past year at RMC, as has senior Liv Zito. “Jack helped my music teacher record my college audition songs,” said Zito. Manning said that he plans to open his own music studio after high school.
