MUN Wrap-Up

by AJ Gold
WHS took home the Premier Delegation Award at the Model United Nations conference this past weekend; the convention was also highlighted by many individual awards and honors. Among the winners were senior David Gruskin, who won Premier Diplomat, and junior Andrew Zale, who was named Outstanding Youth Secretariat. Senior Presiding Committee Officer Julia Napolitano and senior Samantha Gruskin were among the 25 delegates nominated to attend the Conference on National Affairs this July.
“The [students] performed very well. Our delegation rose to the challenge and did a very good job,” said Model UN Adviser Mr. Daniel Farabaugh.

“As a whole, this was a great conference,” said senior Co-President Alex Palatucci. “This was my fourth year [and] improvements made over the years have produced an awesome program.”

Said Co-Adviser Mr. David Della Fera of this year’s 162 delegates, “As the biggest delegation, our group is highly visible, and they consistently impress everyone at the conference.”

Farabaugh said that MUN is more than just a resumé booster, providing opportunities for students to develop public speaking and communication skills. He added, “I also believe that they like the idea of learning something different, and the sense of accomplishment that comes with it.”

Said Palatucci, “[I have] gained confidence that I would never have achieved without the program.”

According to @YMCAMUN, the program’s Twitter account, the conference’s had its fortieth anniversary this year.

Farabaugh said the delegation exceeded his expectations and added that for next year, “More of the same would make me perfectly happy.”
