Penn Relays recap

by Maddie Katz
Finishing fourth in its heat, the boys 4×400 team ran in the annual Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on April 26.
Senior Quad-Captain Matt Luppino said: “The Penn Relays are always a huge and prestigious event where we get to race against some of the best teams in the country.…We raced well, and had a great time enjoying the atmosphere.”
The athletes, Luppino, senior Jon Savorgiannakis, junior Josh Capistrano and junior Will Chandler, ran 52.50, 52.80, 55.10 and 53.30 seconds, respectively. They finished at 3:33.70.
According to Savorgiannakis: “Going to the oldest and largest track meet in the country is truly an unforgettable experience. Having thousands of people watch you run is really cool.”
Said Head Coach Christopher Tafelski: “The boys performed very well. We have suffered a number of injuries this season, to the point where even going to the meet was in question. We ran our fastest 4×4 time of the season on the biggest stage a high school runner could perform on. That’s something for the kids to be very proud of.”
