Everyone wants to stay fit during the holidays, but with temperatures dropping and days shortening, it’s getting easier to push that workout off until tomorrow. This year, instead of running in the cold or heading to the gym, try one of these fun and spirited workouts instead.
This Latin-inspired dance class puts a whole new spin on working out. Zumba is an exercise routine set to music and designed to work your entire body. Because of the upbeat atmosphere, attending a Zumba class is a great way to shake the stress of the school day, catch up with friends and burn calories all at the same time.
Zumba classes are offered by the Westfield YMCA, and they are available at no cost to members. Prices range from $70 to $80 for non-members, depending on the class. Current classes end on Dec. 24. Look for the new class schedule in January 2012. —Exercise TV is available through On Demand, and offers a variety of workouts that can be done in the comfort of home. With focus areas ranging from abs to cardio, these workouts provide a well-rounded exercise regime perfect for the hectic schedule of the holidays. Ranging from 15 minutes to an hour, they can be done between shopping trips or at the end of a busy day.

These exercise videos are all available free to On Demand subscribers.
With the holidays fast approaching, stress levels can increase from all the school work and shopping. Yoga is a great way to decrease stress and tone the body at the same time. Yoga is an exercise routine that combines various poses requiring core strength and concentration. Coupled with meditation, yoga provides students with the opportunity to de-stress and become more in touch with their bodies all while getting fit.
Located in Cranford, Allume yoga offers a teen yoga class (taught by Social Studies Teacher Ms. Tricia Ianuzzi) on Wednesday nights at 6 p.m. This class is $96 for an eight-week session. Allume also offers many other classes depending on skill level and need.
