The bowling team competed in its first tournament of the season, the Bishop Ahr Classic, consisting of over 40 teams around New Jersey, at Cavalier Bowling Lanes on Dec. 3. The team was coming off a 2707-2519 win over SPF last week.
Although Brick Memorial High School, No. 1 on the nj.com top 20, took home first place, Westfield totaled a score of 945 points for the first game, 947 for the second and 933 for the third. Senior Tri-Captain Lucas Cruz was the leader, bowling a series score of 677 points and a high game score of 264.
Senior Tri-Captain Adam Firestone said, “We didn’t put up the numbers we can, but for our first tournament it wasn’t a bad effort.”
Behind Cruz, senior Tri-Captain Eric Saunders bowled a 575 point series and a high game of 199 points, and senior Taylor Friss bowled a 534 point series and a high game of 191. In addition, senior Theresa Carlino bowled a 534 point series and Firestone finished off the scoring with a 515 point series and a high game of 191 points.
Saunders said: “It was a good first tournament for us. As a team we all shot well and we will continue getting better as the season goes on.”
The next tournament will be Dec. 10 at Jersey Lanes.
