Freshmen help feed NJ

by Dara Tucker

From Nigeria to Newark, people are hungry everywhere in the world. Freshmen Cole Feltman, Jack Liebling and Mark Kostyack have decided to take matters into their own hands by organizing a food drive at WHS.

According to feedingamerica.org, 1.2 million New Jersey citizens are not getting enough to eat. After volunteering at a food bank for the past year, Feltman said that he was compelled to take action.

“We are one of the more wealthy towns in our county, so I think we should give back to others who are in need,” said Feltman.

According to Feltman, the drive is part of a much larger statewide effort coordinated by the Federation of New Jersey Food Banks. WHS will compete in the Federation’s annual Students Change Hunger competition, in which schools compete against each other to donate the most food and win the coveted Governor’s Cup, according to studentschangehunger.org.

“Our goal is to raise at least ten pounds to donate to our local food bank, [which is] then distributed throughout New Jersey,” said Feltman. He added that his goal is for WHS to be the top donator in the state.

The food drive will continue until November 22–there is a box in the front hallway collecting canned goods. Until then, though, WHS has the chance to make an impact on the lives of many, and win some prizes in the process.
